Tilling and toiling ended Sunday, 4/3, when I shaped the warm, soft dirt into 10 varying, mounded rows and sowed the seeds. Snap peas (will it prove too late?), carrots (whose seeds are impossibly small), lettuces (again with the teeny seeds!), a little cilantro, and for the two tall, long rows: yellow squash, cantaloupe and watermelon.
I don't have a watering system in place yet, and all the clouds and wind and threats of rain have only produced a little spittle from the sky.
But I had a visitor yesterday.
“A snake came to my water-trough / On a hot, hot day, and I in pyjamas for the heat, / To drink there.” D.H. Lawrence
